My name is Christine Fortin, and I am raising money for my daughter and her family after a horrific car accident took the life of my 4-year-old granddaughter, Christine, and left other members of our family seriously injured.

My granddaughter was named after me, something that has always been incredibly special to me.

Christine was a fighter from the very beginning.

She was born prematurely on December 10, 2021, weighing only 1 pound, 8 ounces. She spent the first three months of her life in an incubator, fighting to survive. And she did. She grew into a beautiful, happy little girl who brought so much love and joy to our family.

This year, she had just started Pre-K. August 20th was her very first day. She would have celebrated her 5th birthday on December 10th.

On the evening of September 12th, my daughter and her family went out to a game room and to get pizza. It was supposed to be a normal night out together.

On their way home, their car was involved in a devastating collision with a motorcycle on Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of their car, and the force of the impact caused the car, with six people inside, to flip over.

Our sweet little Christine did not survive.

After everything she overcame just to come into this world, losing her at only 4 years old is something our family cannot begin to put into words.

Our family is still living through the aftermath of that night.

The two other children, Christine's cousins Abraham Medrano, 8, and Yamilah Claudio, 7, were critically injured and are now fighting for their lives in the hospital. My daughter, Gissela, Christine's mother, was also seriously injured and has already undergone multiple surgeries. While grieving the unimaginable loss of her little girl, she and her family are also facing serious injuries, hospital stays, surgeries, and what will likely be a long road to recovery.

They should be home together right now. Christine should be going to Pre-K, learning new things, playing with her siblings, and getting ready to turn 5 in December.

Instead, this family is grieving the loss of their little girl while fighting to recover physically and somehow figuring out how to move forward.

That is why I am asking for help.

We are raising money to support my daughter and her family through the weeks and months ahead. Donations will help with funeral and memorial expenses for Christine, medical and recovery-related expenses, lost income, transportation, everyday living expenses, and the many unexpected costs this tragedy has created.

More than anything, I want to give my family the ability to focus on what matters right now: grieving Christine, being there for the other children, and healing from their injuries without having to worry about how they are going to pay their bills.
