Hi, my name is Christina, and I never imagined I’d be writing this kind of post.
Recently, I was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) – a rare and serious form of blood cancer that attacks the bone marrow, disrupting the body’s ability to produce healthy blood cells. It’s not only physically draining, but emotionally and financially overwhelming.
MDS has turned my world upside down. Simple things I once took for granted – like having energy to spend with my three beautiful daughters or being able to work as a dedicated phlebotomist – have become increasingly difficult. This illness unfortunately costed me my job that I worked so incredibly hard for. Between very frequent hospital visits, stays in ICU, testing, transfusions, procedures, and the possibility of a future bone marrow transplant, the costs are stacking up quickly.
Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses are staggering. That’s why I’m asking for help – something I’ve never been great at. But I know I can’t do this alone.
Your donation will go toward:
Help getting me to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota within the next 4 weeks hopefully, referral is in the process. This would help with gas, food, lodging. If I can't get into Mayo sooner, I will be going to UIC downtown Chicago, Loyola, or Northwestern. Definitely seeking a second opinion one way or another.
Transportation to and from specialists and hospitals.
Support for my children during my care and recovery.
Everyday living expenses as I’m unable to work currently.
No amount is too small. Whether you’re able to give or simply share this campaign, your support means the world to me and my family.
I’m determined to fight – not just for myself, but for the chance to watch my daughters grow up. With your help, I believe I can overcome this.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with me.
With love and hope,
Christina
