Help Christina and her fight with brain cancer
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Aleisha Guck (Schultz). I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of my one and only sister Christina Wichman (Schultz). On March 19th, 2023 my sister was getting ready to go to work when she unexpectedly had a seizure. Her husband Drew and daughter Emma were home and called an ambulance where she was taken to St. Cloud hospital.
After getting an MRI, they discovered that she had a large mass on her frontal lobe. She was admitted to the Neuro floor and underwent a craniotomy days later to have some of the mass removed. They were unable to remove the whole mass without causing permanent damage (losing motor abilities/being paralyzed).
They sent off her tumor biopsy to the Mayo Clinic where they determined that she has grade 3 Oligodendroglioma- a rare form of brain cancer. With this diagnosis she is set to start brain radiation that will be everyday for the next 6 weeks, along with intense chemotherapy. This is going to be a life long battle for her. Since she is continuing to suffer from seizures she is no longer able to drive, which is making it complicating to get to these appointments. She is still determined to work as much as she can as a CNA during her treatment to help pay these medical bills and still helping support her family.
My sister is used to taking care of everyone else around her and I am hopeful that this charity can raise enough so she can focus on taking care of herself for once. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any and all help would be so greatly appreciated.
UPDATE:
Many people have asked how Christina is doing, here is an update as of August 1st, 2023. Christina has officially finished her brain radiation that she was doing 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Throughout her treatment Christina has managed to work her overnight job as a CNA and go to her radiation appointments in the early afternoon. She did have some side effects from the radiation but overall her body handled it well.
She is going on week 3 now of chemotherapy. She is receiving three different chemotherapy’s- two being pills and one being an infusion that she has to get at the cancer center. She will be doing this for the next 6 months. We don’t know what her radiation has done to the tumor yet. She will be getting an MRI in October to see how the radiation and chemotherapy is affecting the tumor.
She is still receiving Keppra which is a medication to prevent any further seizures that the tumor was causing. She is still trying to work her full time job to provide for her family and pay medical bills. She wants to thank everyone who donated as she has been able to make a good payment towards her hospital bills and ambulance rides. I will update in October when we get results from the MRI to see what has happened with the tumor. We are all praying/thinking about you Christina- you are so incredibly strong❤️
NOVEMBER UPDATE:
Christina is continuing to push through her chemo treatments. She recently just finished round 3 and she has 3 more rounds to go. Her rounds still continue to be a mixture of chemotherapy pills and infusions. She did have her MRI in October to see if there has been any progress. Her results showed that she went from stage 3 to stage 1 Oligodendroglioma! This is great news! She has been so strong getting through surgery, radiation and now halfway through her chemotherapy treatment. Keep pushing Christina everyone is rooting for you please continue to keep her in your prayers as she continues treatments and working full time. I will update again soon.
