My name is Christina, and I’m asking for help during one of the most difficult chapters of my life.
I was unexpectedly terminated from my job during a time when many Black women were suddenly and disproportionately affected by widespread DEI rollbacks. The loss of my job was abrupt and destabilizing. As a person with a disability, finding new employment has been far more challenging than I ever anticipated.
Without steady income, my bills quickly piled up. Eventually, I had no choice but to move in with my daughter, AnnMarie. While we are deeply grateful to have each other, the financial and emotional strain of combining households became overwhelming. AnnMarie has unexpectedly had to shoulder the burden of both our expenses, and her living space was not designed to accommodate my disability. This has caused me increased physical pain and created even more barriers as I continue trying to secure work.
Despite these challenges, we have not given up. AnnMarie worked incredibly hard and earned her Master’s degree. I have been pouring my energy into writing a book (available here ) and running a small craft business (AChrissyCreation ) in an effort to generate income and rebuild stability. We have truly done everything in our power to improve our circumstances.
Unfortunately, when I was forced to leave my apartment unexpectedly, I accrued $7,700 in rental debt. This debt now stands as a major obstacle, preventing us from qualifying for a new apartment. This is how people become homeless – an unstable economy in a capitalistic society that provides few supportive services, and limited opportunities for recovery. Many of the organizations that would be able to help me are overwhelmed and underfunded; some have lost their funding and closed their doors.
This fundraiser is to help us pay down that rental debt so we can secure stable housing and begin again. Any contribution — no matter the amount — will help lift a weight that has been pressing on us for far too long. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story, for your kindness, and for standing with us as we work toward stability and dignity.
