As many of you know, our dear friend Christie, who lives in Kings Park (born and raised in Northport/East Northport), has been fighting colon cancer since her diagnosis in 2023. Through it all, Christie has shown remarkable strength and resilience.
Recently, however, her journey took an unexpected turn.
Christie was preparing for surgery to remove cancer from her lungs and underwent a routine pre-surgical scan. During that scan, doctors discovered a blood clot in her lung, which meant the surgery had to be postponed. At the same time, because Christie had been off chemotherapy for nearly nine weeks while recovering from inflammation and preparing for surgery, the tumors in her lungs showed some growth.
Because of the blood clot, Christie’s surgery must now be delayed for at least three months. In the meantime, she will need to return to chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, the chemotherapy Christie previously received was not effective in treating the cancer in her lungs. This means she now has to begin a new chemotherapy regimen that is known to be much more difficult to tolerate. While Christie handled her previous treatment with incredible strength, this new treatment will likely be a very different and more challenging experience.
Christie had been hoping to return to work in the coming months, but with this sudden change in her treatment plan, those hopes have been put on hold. As a result, the financial burden of medical care and everyday expenses continues to grow.
For those who may not know Christie personally, she is truly one of the most selfless people we know. Before beginning chemotherapy in 2024, Christie worked as an occupational therapist helping medically fragile children and children with cancer. Even after her diagnosis, she continued working and caring for others until chemotherapy made it impossible for her to keep going.
Christie has spent her life helping children and families during their hardest moments. Now, we hope our community can come together again to support her during this incredibly difficult chapter.
Funds raised will help Christie cover:
• Ongoing medical bills and treatment costs
• Medical debt
• Integrative care that previously helped her tolerate chemotherapy
• Potential caregiving assistance at home a few hours a week
• Everyday expenses (such as mortgage, car payments, etc.)
Cancer treatment is not only physically and emotionally exhausting, it is also incredibly expensive. Many families in the public eye have shared just how overwhelming these costs can become, and Christie is now facing that same reality once again.
We know many of you generously donated when Christie began chemotherapy in August 2024, and we cannot thank you enough. Thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, and even strangers, we raised enough to help Christie during her go-around with the last chemotherapy. Those funds helped cover treatment and living expenses during an incredibly difficult year, and Christie and her family remain deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support. With this new challenge of a new treatment, we are hoping to do it again.
We are asking our community to share, donate, and support Christie in any way possible as she faces this next step in her journey.
Every donation, message, and share means the world.
Let’s come together again to remind Christie just how loved and supported she truly is.
