We were on a family vacation four hours from home when Christian, my wife’s son, suddenly became very ill. What started as what we thought was a simple stomach bug quickly turned into a terrifying emergency. Christian became unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital, where we learned he had a kidney blockage with a 1.6 cm stone and systemic sepsis. Our family has been stranded far from home, caring for Christian in the hospital long after our vacation was supposed to end.
The days in the hospital have been filled with worry and uncertainty, but we are relieved to share that Christian’s condition is finally beginning to improve. His organ functions are returning, and he is much more alert and responsive. While we are grateful for his progress, the unexpected travel and lodging costs have created a significant financial strain on our family. Being away from home has also meant lost income, adding to the stress of this already difficult situation. If Christian’s medical care cannot be easily transferred to our home city, we may have to drive back for follow-up care. When we are finally released from the hospital here, Christian will still need special care due to a nephrostomy that was needed to drain his blocked and infected kidney.
Dealing with a sick child is one of the hardest things a family can face, and the added financial burden only makes it more challenging. Any generosity is greatly appreciated and will help us cover the costs of staying near the hospital, traveling for care, and supporting Christian as he recovers. Your support means the world to us and helps to alleviate some of the strain of this unfortunate ordeal. Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and for any help you can provide.
