My name is Christian Inyamagem, and a few weeks ago, I received an email that changed my life. I was accepted to Southeastern Louisiana University to study Music Education, with the viola as my primary instrument. The viola has been my lifeline from the very first day I picked it up. When many things in my life felt unstable, music became the one place where I felt grounded.

One person who has believed in me from the very beginning is my viola professor, Mrs. Ann Marie Hudson Brink. She saw my passion, my discipline, and my devotion to the instrument—and she never gave up on me. Her mentorship shaped not only my musicianship, but my confidence and hope. When everything else felt uncertain—money, home, the future—the viola never asked questions. It simply gave me a voice. I practiced on instruments that weren’t mine, late at night after long shifts, in rooms that were too loud and distracting, because playing was the only moment when the noise in my head finally went quiet.

This degree is not just a piece of paper to me. It is a calling. It is the opportunity to stand in front of a classroom one day and hand that same lifeline to students who feel unseen or unheard. I want to teach them that they don’t have to be perfect, wealthy, or “gifted” in the traditional sense—they just have to begin. I want to show them what the viola showed me: that beauty can still be created, even when life feels broken.

Right now, however, the financial reality is overwhelming. Tuition, housing, books, and instrument expenses are more than my family and I can manage, no matter how many hours I work. I am not asking for a handout—I am asking for a hand forward. Every donation brings me closer to my first day of classes. Every share brings this dream within reach. If music has ever helped you through a difficult moment, then you already understand the power of what your support can do. Thank you, truly, for taking the time to read my story and for helping me turn the thing that saved me into the thing that will one day save someone else.

With all my heart,
Christian Inyamagem
