Good day to everyone & thank you so much for even taking the time out of your day to read this!!
Mike & Sharmela Christmon here! We’ve started this fundraiser on behalf of our amazing 14 year old son, Christian.
Christian is a Freshman & has been nominated by an educator at Disney II Magnet HS here in Chicago to participate in something very special.
The Congress of Future Medical Leaders, to be held in Boston, MA this summer. If Christian participates, he’ll even receive, “The Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence; For outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.” THIS IS HUGE!!!
We received a letter from Mario Capecchi Ph.D. notifying Christian & our family, of his nomination. He is the Science Director, at The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. He’s also a 2007 Nobel prize winner for physiology or medicine. We are OVERJOYED & extremely humbled by this amazing opportunity!!
Those who know Christian, LOVE him & completely understand just why he was nominated. His warmth, compassion, intellect & determination are inspiring to anyone he meets. His determination & work ethic are unmatched. To put that into context for you, here’s an example of what we mean.
We currently live in the South Loop of Chicago. We don’t have a car.
While there are high schools that are closer to us, that doesn’t mean that the closer ones are what would have been best for Christian, his learning style, his interests or his development as a young adult. His comfort is important to us. Disney II is a Magnet HS that you have to apply for. You have to apply for HS the way adults apply for college, here in the city. We all talked about it & applied to the schools we felt would suit him best. Disney was Christian’s first choice & as his parents, we were so happy because we fell in love with Disney and it’s INCREDIBLE educators at the school’s open house. GO DISNEY II TITANS!!!
BUT….Disney is also on the OTHER SIDE of the city.
We’ve only lived here about 3 years. Technically he’s still new to Chicago. He’s always lived in the suburbs. His middle school is around the corner from our place, so he walked there. Consequently, it takes Christian 45 minutes to an hour EVERY DAY, to get back & forth to school. With his book bag & trumpet case, he rides the bus & the train. (No school bus) And as an incoming Freshman with NO EXPERIENCE being on the transit system in a new city, he was commuting by himself in less than 2 weeks after the school year started.
BECAUSE HE WAS DETERMINED TO GO TO DISNEY!!!!
AND HE CONSISTENTLY MAINTAINS A SOLID GPA WHILE DOING SO!!!!!
So we are trying to raise the money for his Tuition, the transportation, the overnight stay, food, spending money, for other needs & to also cover the fees that the Gofundme platform will charge.
WE HAVE TO PAY IT BY MARCH 29, 2023.
1) The Tuition & overnight stay are $1645 if we pay it IN FULL.
2) If we use their payment arrangements, it’s $1806. We’d put down $602 and then have the $1204 balance split into 2 other payments.
3) YES we are responsible for paying for his travel & transportation to the Congress. $500 for round trip airfare. They will have people on staff who will be in the airport for pickups & drop offs, medical emergencies, etc.

5) If you would like a receipt to write your donation off, one can be created for you in PayPal or Canva!

This is an absolutely incredible chance for him to meet other people who are passionate like him!! We want to allow him an opportunity to meet other Nobel Prize winners, who will be there mentoring these young people as well!! They’ll even get to watch a surgery happen & ask the surgeon questions while everything is going on!!
