Hello! For those reading who don't know me, I am Christian Cotter. I am a freelance animator/ Digital Artist and i have Cerebral Palsy. I am pretty independent, but I need to use forarm Crutches and a wheelchair for mobility and every day use.
I am currently in need of a new pair of crutches and a new wheelchair that are durable and made for long term active use. The types of crutches i currently use are standard issue forarm crutches primarily issued for temporary injuries and wear down over time. I've gone through at least 3 pairs this year alone due to them wearing down and, in one case, breaking while in use. They also case hand pain and often times cause discomfort for my arms during use. As for the manual Wheelchair, the one i currently use is the one i've had since Elementary school and while it's held up extremely well over the years, It's also wearing down and slowly becoming unusable.
My doctors and i have tried to get it to where the new equipment could be approved by insurance, However, The insurance has a contract with a specific company and that company only provides the standard quality crutches and chairs that are used for medical recovery purposes and aren't made for my needs, so they can't help provide what i need.
Because of this, I have decided to start a this GoFundMe in the hopes of helping with the cost of both the crutches and chair that i've decided would be the best options for my needs.
Both the chair and crutches i'm looking at are not only pretty good quality and built with long term active users in mind, but they are also very travel friendly and are able to easily be transported in vehicles for long trips while taking up minimal space. This is a huge benefit as often times when traveling, packing the equipment is a challenge.
Having both the new crutches and the new chair would help me out so much not only with every day tasks, but also in cases where i need to use both the crutches and chair, such as traveling, exercising, etc. in addition to reducing the pain and discomfort i experience when i use the ones i have.
Thank you all in advance for contributing and helping me get this equipment., it means a lot and i promise you they will be put to great use.
