Help Christa Save Gumbo and Restore Fern Haven Farm

Backstory: Hurricane Milton did major damage to my friend’s horse farm. Fern Haven Farms, located in Brooksville, FL, was the home and boarding place of 27 horses. The owner, Christa Limongiello, knew it was not safe to stay. She organized the massive effort to transport all of the horses to the World Equestrian Center (WEC), bringing every dog, cat, turtle, and injured wildlife with them! They all literally slept in the stalls!

Right before the hurricane hit, fate was not kind. Her precious cat, Mr. Jingles passed away. Her heart was broken. But she had to save the tears for later because there was no time to grieve.

After the storm passed, they began the process of transporting all 27 horses back to Brooksville. The damage was extensive! Paddocks are destroyed, fences are crushed by tree branches. Massive trees were lying like toothpicks along the half-mile driveway, bringing electric lines down! Raging water tore the road in two, making the road impassable! They had to walk the horses in through a trail in the back of their property.

The haybarn was flooded, ruining all hay and seed! Between the cremation of Mr. Jingles, the horse transport to and from WEC, buying new food for all of the animals, and so many expenses, her bank account is drained and her credit cards are maxed out.

But she still didn’t ask for help.

Not until today. When the straw broke the camel’s back. One of her dogs, Gumbo, who is a huge part of her heart, has a fast-growing lump at the base of his tail. She hated asking for help, but Gumbo means the world to her! She doesn’t have the funds to get him to the vet, and get that lump aspirated and sent off to the labs. And God forbid, if he needs surgery….what is she going to do?

Gumbo was a Houston street dog in 2017. She saw his face, after he was picked up by the city shelter where his fate was certain death, and she said, “I need him! Please bring him to me!” That’s how I became friends with Christa. I transported him from Texas to Florida. Gumbo has been living his best life ever since!
