Hi, my name is Ray Selph, and on April 18, 2021, my fiancé, Christine Mori (Chris), her father, and I received the 1st shot of the Moderna vaccine. That evening, she began to feel nauseated and vomitted a couple of times. The week following, she did not feel well and was very fatigued and did not feel like herself. We called Kaiser the following Sunday 4/25/21, 1 week after the shot, because she woke up in a cold sweat and short of breath. The Kaiser nurse mentioned to us that side effects can last from 7-9 days, so we were ok with that . But as evening progressed, her breathing did not get better. I took her in to Watsonville Hospital and when we arrived the doctor started running tests on her and found out she suffered a major heart attack, along with a mild stroke and had developed severe anemia. She was transferred to Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz the following morning, and later that day, she had a stent implanted in her heart to open up blood vessel.
In the first month, Chris was admitted to emergency dept about 5 times, due to complications from medications, and her heart function which was at only 25%. Since we have Kaiser insurance, she had to be transferred by ambulance to Kaiser in San Jose each time, about an hour away from where we live. This alone, created a lot of stress for her and did not help her condition. Since the last time she was admitted ( for 2 weeks) and discharged, we have been staying at a nearby hotel by Kaiser. I am trying to keep her close by the hospital just in case of any emergencies and also to help with her recovery. She has had 4 blood transfusions in total. I would like to mention that a couple of Kaiser doctors did submit to the CDC that the side effects were caused by the Moderna vaccine. She was just trying to "do the right thing" and be safe and protect family and friends.
At this time, we are not receiving any financial assistance because there are none available to us. I have been with Chris for 28 years since I was 19 years old, I am now 46. Chris was a 52 year old healthy woman, she just turned 53 in August, who had no underlying health conditions at the time of the shot. She is a wonderful person, who always puts everybody before herself. She always wants to help people. This is so surreal. The hotel, hospital and our regular bills are adding up. Unfortunately, I do not have family on my side, that I can turn to for assistance. I have become Chris's caretaker and we are both unemployed at this time. It will be a long road to complete recovery. I would appreciate any type of assistance and support at this time. 100% will go to the cause.
Sincerely,
Ray Selph
