Help Chris Welland's medical funds

Donation protected

On Sunday, May 2nd after church my step dad Chris Welland suffered a severe stroke in his brain stem, affecting the bilateral pons part of the brain. This stroke happened suddenly with no signs or symptoms leading up to the event. Luckily he was taken to the hospital quickly, and given blood thinners. He now rests in the ICU on a ventilator, unknown what his long term disabilities may be, or if he will pull through. The situation is made worse due to the event taken place in Maui, Hawaii where Chris and my mom have relocated due to work and to serve the homeless.  They are both Canadian citizens and have no family near by to help.

My mom and Chris are both active members of society, feeding the homeless regularly, and rescuing injured animals in need. Chris was a former pastor and carpenter, and loves growing and tending to a full vegetable garden. They love attending the local farmers markets and sharing their fruitful produce with the local community. Chris loves singing and playing piano with his friends and frequently plays piano for his church on Sundays service.

Everyday is touch and go, Chris lays in the ICU sedated with unknown effects from the stroke. He is opening and closing his eyes today but has no body movement. My mom is staying with a friend close to the hospital so she can have some time with him during the day (short time slots of visiting due to covid) and receive frequent updates. The next step is trailing him off the ventilator to see is he can breathe on his own.

I am trying to raise money for Chris and my mom due to increasing medical bills when his medicare runs out, probable long term physiotherapy, eventually coming back to Canada to be close to friends and family when he becomes medically stable to fly. As well as counselling for the emotional toll this is taking on my mom, being in a different country away from friends and family, dealing with her critically sick husband alone, in the middle of a pandemic. This is an extremely difficult time, physically, mentally, and emotionally on both my mom and Chris. There is no feeling worse in this world than feeling helpless and far away from family in need. I would love to take some of the financial burden away from my mom, if you can help in any way I would be forever grateful. XO
