Help Chris Thompson On His Health Journey

Many of you who know me, know my father, Chris Thompson. My father has been an integral part of not only my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, but he has extended his love and care to many of my friends and loved ones as well.

Over the last few years my father's health has declined and while he's overcome battle after battle, there is still more that needs to be done. My dad is currently on dialysis, with a kidney function rating of only 9%. For reference, below 15% is considered kidney failure. His doctors are urging him to start the process of a kidney transplant to prolong his life. In order to qualify for the transplant, they are requesting that he loses weight and lowers his BMI. At the rate that his kidney function has dropped, we unfortunately do not have the luxury of time for him to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. The best course of action at this time is to look into gastric bypass.

While this treatment recommendation is coming from his doctors and is needed to bolster his health, his insurance will not cover the procedure, which currently costs $25,000. This procedural cost combined with other medical bills for the two ports that he had put in for his dialysis, along with a myriad of other check-ups and tests, have caused additional stress for him. I am making this GoFundMe to help raise money for the gastric bypass. This is the first step in not only helping to prolong his life, but also ensuring that he can live pain-free and with a healthy, functioning kidney.
