update: 4/5/24** After undergoing two surgeries at UCSD, Christopher has been transferred to an acute care facility to continue his rehabilitation journey. Currently, he is adapting to life at home with non-weight bearing status on both legs, while still having an external fixator on his right knee. We're eagerly awaiting further guidance from his medical team regarding the next steps. With his right leg, we're uncertain about when the external fixator will be removed. Additionally, we're in the process of scheduling an appointment with a sports medicine doctor who can expedite the surgical replacement of the ligaments to stabilize the knee. Christopher has a post-operative appointment scheduled for his left knee on the 10th, during which the course of action for that leg will be determined. With approximately 5 to 6 surgeries remaining, Christopher is slated to return home on the 11th. While he'll be in a wheelchair for the next few months, his perseverance, coupled with ongoing surgeries and rigorous physical therapy, will pave the way for him to walk again. The road to recovery may be lengthy, but we're immensely grateful for the unwavering support we've received. Christopher, unfortunately will not be able to keep his job so anything helps. Thank you so much
update: 3/21/24** We are finally home! 40 hour travel back. Once we got back to San Diego, Chris went into surgery the next morning 3/21. Where they removed the external fixations (pins and rods). Screwed the left femur back together, then screwed the left femur into the bone below. They opened up the back of the leg to inspect nerve damage. Opened up the right leg and installed internal fixation so he can't bend or move the leg. They're concerned about the surgical procedure performed by the Thai, so they opened him up to assess the situation firsthand with both knees. An MRI is next. He is in lots of pain. It will be a long road of surgeries and recovery. Anything donated helps so much as we strive to get Chris back on his feet. Covering medical bills and other bills as he is unable to work. Thank you so much **
update: 3/18/2024*** Flying home! Flying to Istanbul then LA then taking an ambulance back to the Hospital where Chris will have another surgery. Almost home! Will be back 3/19 night. Thank you again for your donations and prayers. Once home, Chris will have to undergo multiple surgeries and lots of therapy. Every donation helps so much. **
UPDATE: 3/14/2024 *** Travel Insurance has agreed to cover his flight back home, pending confirmation of dates. The doctor has advised surgery within two weeks from Monday the 11th. I'm flying out tonight to provide support and will arrive by Sunday. Currently, he's covering all expenses out of pocket. While Blue Cross insurance may offer partial reimbursement, it's not guaranteed, and they're unable to assist with expenses at this time. The GoFundMe campaign has been instrumental in helping cover his hospital bills while he's there. Thank you for your support. His job security is uncertain beyond 6 weeks due to tenure, so every contribution matters. Love you all. ***
UPDATE: 3/11/2024 *** It will be closer to 50K to get him out. Found a company that would just purchase area of commercial plane and accompany him with a doctor. (Sky Nurses) instead of an ambulance plane.
They would need the money upfront before doing anything.
Concerns: The hospital lacks the necessary resources to provide adequate care for him or treat him effectively. His fourth blood transfusion raises concerns about insufficiently controlled bleeding, especially considering it has been two days since his initial surgery.
We are just racing with time. Hoping we can get enough money to fly him out ASAP. Insurances have finally been involved. ****
GoFundMe fundraiser is being organized by me, Sophia Gutierrez, Christopher's girlfriend. All funds will be transferred to Christopher Llewellyn. His GoFundMe donations will go to his transport out, medical bills, hospital stay and more related to his accident. Thank you so much for your help and support in all of this we are so appreciative of everyone sharing and donating.
Dear friends, family, and compassionate individuals,
On March 8th, Chris was involved in a head-on collision while pursuing his passion for Muay Thai in Thailand, resulting in severe injuries, including both legs being broken and dislocated. Recent updates reveal that the local hospital in Phuket lacks the
necessary resources to perform the required surgeries on his legs. Consequently, arrangements are being made to fly him back home in a stretcher, accompanied by a medical professional to monitor his condition throughout the journey.
The journey ahead is daunting, with extensive medical treatments and a prolonged stay in a Thai hospital anticipated (approximately 30-60 days), if he cannot get flown back. Additionally, the costs associated with the necessary surgeries and his eventual return home to reunite with his daughter, Luna, are significant and beyond his immediate means.
In an effort to ensure Chris receives the best possible care and assistance during this challenging time, I am launching this GoFundMe campaign. The funds raised will be allocated to cover medical bills, the extended hospital stay, and or the expenses needed to get him home as soon as possible.
Every contribution, regardless of size, will play a crucial role in supporting Chris on his road to recovery. Your generosity will not only address immediate medical needs but also help with essentials such as food and aid in facilitating his return home to Luna.
Please share this campaign within your networks and consider making a donation to help us reach our goal. Your prayers, well-wishes, and financial support are invaluable during this trying period.
Thank you for standing by us and offering your support to Chris on his journey to recovery.
