Help the Walker Family Make Their Home Safe for Chris

Hello friends, family, and kind strangers,

My name is Monica, and I’m fundraising for my brother-in-law, Chris Walker — a husband, dad, and U.S. Air Force veteran who’s facing a long road after a devastating car accident.

Back in January 2025, Chris was hit by a driver going 65 mph. The crash forced his car into a ditch, flipping it over. At first, doctors thought he might recover slowly from a concussion. But over time, it became clear the damage was deeper — and most likely permanent.

Chris has since been diagnosed with:
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • A seizure disorder
  • Dysautonomia, a condition that disrupts his nervous system and causes fatigue, dizziness, and loss of muscle control

These aren’t just medical terms, they’re daily realities. Most days, Chris has difficulties with his legs. He struggles to walk, to follow conversations, to stand without falling. His world has narrowed to doctor visits, therapy, and learning how to function all over again.

He’s had:
  • Multiple hospital stays
  • EEGs, MRIs, CT scans, and a lumbar puncture
  • Ongoing physical, occupational, and neuropsychological therapy
  • Emergency visits due to complications

For months following the car accident, Chris tried to continue working; he'd found a job he loved after retiring from the military and wanted to return to the life he and JB had worked hard to build. Eventually, his medical complications prevented him from being able to continue. JB has been working hard to juggle her job as the Director of Early Childhood Ministries at their local church and homeschool their two teenagers while being Chris's primary caregiver.

What They Need Now

Their most urgent need is to make their home safe.

Right now, their house has no bedroom or bathroom on the main floor. When Chris has a seizure, stairs are out of the question, as he loses control over his legs. The plan is to convert their garage into a main-level bedroom and accessible bathroom so he can move through his day with dignity and safety.

They’ve started getting estimates and applying for veteran assistance, but the costs go far beyond what they can currently manage on one income, especially with medical bills, travel to a top TBI hospital, and the needs of daily life.

Where Your Help Goes

Your donation will help cover:
  • Construction of a main-floor accessible bedroom and bathroom
  • Out-of-pocket medical expenses and therapy
  • Travel to and from Anschutz Hospital for ongoing testing
  • Basic household bills and necessities during this transition

A Note from Chris

Chris says he never thought he’d miss doing yard chores with boys. Or running out to grab the mail. Or walking the dog. The small things that used to fill his day have become impossible — and now feel priceless.

He asked me to remind everyone reading this not to take those everyday moments for granted.
