Help Chris & Kim Recover After Home Fire
Donation protected
Chris Stephens, his wife Kim Hankins, and their three-year-old daughter Heron Lynn, were victims of a terrible accident on Thursday, February 25th, 2021. Their home, which belonged to Chris’s parents (uninsured due to an unfortunate oversight) went up in flames when a drunk driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the road, straight into Chris & Kim’s cars parked on the side of their home. This impact caused an explosion which quickly set fire to their home. Their home, full of their lifetime belongings, went up in smoke while they watched from a safe distance. It is a miracle from God they were able to escape physically unharmed. The impaired driver was also able to escape his vehicle, thanks to the quick and rational thinking of a selfless Chris, who ran to help the driver as the flames blazed on.
In total, the family lost their home, their cars, most of their shoes and clothing, all of Heron’s books and toys, as well as the new furniture and supplies needed for the newest addition to their family, who is due in late June.
Chris is the manager of The Gather, an upscale restaurant in their home of Atmore, Alabama. Now he can’t make it to work without clothing and a vehicle. Chris had also been working hard on a side business growing gourmet, organic mushrooms, which he sold to various restaurants and produce markets to earn extra money. That inventory and all the tools needed for the business were lost in the fire, valued at several thousand dollars.
Please continue to pray for this family and give whatever is on your heart to help them rebuild. No amount is too small, and no amount is too big. They are thankful to God to be alive and physically unharmed, although mentally and emotionally scarred for life.
If you know Chris or Kim, you know that they are not the type of people to ask for handouts or a free ride. They are hard-working, honest people who put their family first. Now it’s time for their family to step up and put them first. If anyone knows what it means to be resilient and to power through hard times, it’s them. Let’s do as much as we can to lighten their burden. Thank you so much for your donations!
