Help Chris Kill the Cancer

Donation protected
As I write this I think about all of the many things that my Dad has gone through over the past 15 years in order to continue to be with all of us. He's the guy that you model yourself after, he's the guy that you call in crisis, he's the guy that always helps out, he's Dad, he's Grandpa. Most of you know him from helping you with the occasional odd job or maybe he might have even built your home. He's "The Guy", "Call Chris, he'll know what to do" are pretty standard references about our Dad.

As many of you know, Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006. It started with radiation treatments and progressed in to multiple chemo treatments and surgeries over the past 15 years. We recently found out that Dad has a tumor on his bladder and that tumor is restricting his kidney function. This latest development has forced him in to an early retirement.

There is some good news. There is a procedure (shot) that is available in Germany called Lutetium-177. This treatment is not currently available in the United States. Lutetium-177 PSMA Therapy, also called Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Therapy, is becoming a popular treatment choice for men experiencing advanced prostate cancer with metastatic or treatment-resistant prostate tumors.

In many patients, the treatment has proven to be a successful way to reduce the size of the tumors. Men who have undergone radical prostatectomy or primary radiotherapy but show symptoms of metastatic recurrence may find Lutetium-177 PSMA Therapy a viable treatment option. The therapy has proved effective at reducing the size of tumors while also stopping them from multiplying. The therapy is not yet part of routine clinical care; yet in many patients, the therapy has been able to achieve long-term remission.

Dad's cancer is the type that Lutetium-177 attacks. Mom and Dad are scheduled to travel to Germany 2-3 times to receive this advanced treatment starting in July.

Each shot of Lutetium-177 is $24,000, none of which is covered by insurance. Dad will receive up to three shots in eight week intervals. They will be required to stay in Germany for a week each trip.

We are hoping to help cover some of the costs for these treatments in order to lessen the burden while he recovers from the procedures. Any help that you all can give is so very much appreciated and we can't thank you enough.
