Hi, I'm Chris Kim (veggiecakeface), an animator and illustrator. You can view my work here: https://chriskim.art/ . I'm 19, a second generation Korean immigrant, and trans. I'm making this GoFundMe in order to finish the fall semester at USC, the school I'm currently attending.
I recently told my parents I'm trans and started taking testosterone and intend to continue doing so. They didn't take this well, especially due to cultural and generational differences, which leads me to where I am now.
Long story short, I'm going to be financially on my own--this includes both my living and education expenses. At the moment, I won't be able to complete my degree at USC, and because I'm on a multi-part payment plan, I'm not sure if I'm even going to be able to finish this fall semester. I need to pay the rest of the semester off so I can continue living in the dorms and earn credit for the classes I'm currently taking if I decide to transfer to community college later on. More importantly, staying in school for the rest of the semester will give me time.
I've reached out to my professors to help me build a portfolio and in the meantime, I'll be applying for retail jobs to save up some money. Any extra funds from this GoFundMe will also go towards helping me get on my feet when I do move out in December. Rent, utilities, groceries--those kinds of things.
If you need anymore information, feel free to reach out to me. Being so vulnerable about my situation in public is difficult and I'd rather not do anything to outwardly antagonize my parents because I don't hate them. My financial independence would just be better for our relationship.
If you read this, thank you, and if you decide to donate, thank you again. Anything helps and I appreciate the support.
