UPDATE: on November 12th Chris had his first Kisempta injection and had a terrible reaction to it. He ended up with a 103 fever, muscle cramps, fatigue and eventually passed out with little memory what happened between home and getting to the ER. They ran all the tests and ended up coming to the conclusion it’s from the injection. He was scheduled to go to the MS Specialist in February but after looking at his scans and then his reaction to the injection, they ended up calling us and getting him in right away on Tuesday. Still praying for some relief physically and mentally. Doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to go back to work doing what he absolutely loves for a while, at least a few months would be my guess. But if you know Chris he’s as stubborn as can be and will get back to wrenching as soon as he can.
On October 27th Chris was officially diagnosed with MS. This entails multiple trips to Omaha, PT and many more days home unable to work. He’s taking it day by day which is all we can do right now. Hoping and praying for some improvement and relief soon so he can get back to his daily activities.
On Sunday, October 12th, Chris began having right-sided weakness. Then by Monday, he had a visible facial droop and a slur with his speech. With him being as stubborn as he is, I finally got him to the ER on Tuesday with the fear of a stroke. They did a CT and MRI in the ER, which unfortunately came back as inconclusive. They admitted him to the hospital where they did a CAT scan and an MRI of more of his head and neck area. The MRI showed a mass amount of white lesions on his brain. The doctor said that’s pretty concerning for someone his age, as he would expect this amount in maybe a 60-70 year old person. They didn’t see any signs of a stroke in the scans, so we’re thinking that is off the list of possibilities.
Yesterday, October 16th, they went in to do a spinal tap to test for Multiple Sclerosis, meningitis, and hydrocephalus, but unfortunately, when they got the needle in the correct spot, they were unable to extract any fluid. That was super disappointing for us, as it took a lot of courage for Chris to go through this as he has a phobia of needles. They will be trying again on Friday the 18th. Our goal is to get him a bed in Omaha at UNMC, but we’re currently on a list for a bed, so we’re praying for tomorrow or Saturday for that transfer. As of right now, we definitely have more questions than answers. Chris is extremely exhausted, still has a tough time with his speech, and has to be assisted to walk as he is very weak on his right side.
We are not the type to ask for assistance or any help really, but unfortunately, even when we have to stop, the cost of living and bills do not. Especially when we get to Omaha, we most likely will have the cost of hotel rooms, gas, and food. If you’re not able to help out financially, we will accept all prayers at this point.
