Me and my three roommates all have cats—they are truly our children. My best friend and roommate, Isabelle, has two boy cats who are like her own little toddlers. They cause some chaos, but they’re the sweetest little boys you’ll ever meet. Chowder, her tuxedo cat, has recently been feeling down, and it’s been heartbreaking for all of us to watch.

Despite living paycheck to paycheck, Isabelle’s concern for Chowder outweighed any financial worries. She took him to the vet, where we learned he has blood in his urine and some blockages. Chowder is now spending a couple of nights at the vet while they try to figure out the cause. He’s been put on kitty anxiety medication and other drugs to ease his pain and discomfort. The vet has said that if he doesn’t get better, he may have to be put down. It’s a terrifying thought for all of us, as Chowder is like a son to our little family.

The vet bills have quickly become overwhelming for Isabelle, who will have to enroll in a long-term payment plan just to cover the costs, and that’s without knowing if Chowder will recover. We love him dearly and hate to see such a good boy in pain. As Isabelle’s best friend, I want to help her as much as possible so she doesn’t have to face this alone.
