Hi everyone! This is Chowder. He's a stray dog that my boyfriend and I found walking into oncoming traffic on I-75. He had a collar on, but someone had ripped off the part with a phone number on it. We took him to a vet immediately to find out if he was microchipped, which he was not. We decided to take him home, and he has become a new member of the family! He is very sweet and playful, super well-behaved, yet terrified of our small little cat. He has adjusted so well being here with us, and now we can't imagine not having him here.
Unfortunately, on his last vet visit, we found out he has heartworm. If you're an animal lover, then you know how serious heartworm is. It is also a very expensive procedure, especially for larger dogs. He has a lot of energy, so it has been a struggle trying to keep him calm since we found out about the disease. Chowder has had the disease for quite some time now, and we believe that is why his last home may have gotten rid of him. We want Chowder to enjoy the rest of his life and be healthy, but with the treatment being so expensive, we decided to reach out for some help. I am still in school, and my boyfriend just graduated, so this was not something we had anticipated having to deal with. We're hoping to start the treatment as soon as possible, so it doesn't progress any more than it has. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
