Our sweet boy, Chowder, is only 3 years old and has been diagnosed with oral melanoma—a cancerous mass destroying the bone in his hard palate and extending into his nasal cavity. This diagnosis has been devastating, and I'm doing everything I can to save our little guy and keep him comfortable.
It all started when we noticed blood in his drool. At first, we thought he might have chewed on something harmful, but when we took him to Winter Park Veterinary Hospital, we quickly learned it was something far more serious. The vet immediately suspected a deeper issue and performed a biopsy that same day. Within a week, we received the heartbreaking news: Chowder had a rare and aggressive form of cancer.
We were referred to the Oncology department at the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital, where he was officially diagnosed and started a treatment plan. Chowder will need 5 weeks of radiation therapy, with one treatment each week, in hopes of shrinking the tumor and giving him more time with us. As of 12/18/2024 he will also be apart of a clinical trial which will hopefully stop the spread to the rest of his body.
This journey has been both emotionally and financially overwhelming. The cost of treatments, medications, and highly potential post treatment complications is high—our goal is to raise $10,000 to help cover the expenses and give Chowder the best possible chance at recovery.
If you’ve ever had a pet, you know that they are not just animals; they are family. Chowder is our son, my best friend, and a joy to everyone he meets. He loves to chase lizards, play soccer, and bounce after basketballs. He’s the happiest when he’s sunbathing or hanging out with our 1-year-old daughter, who has quickly become his best friend.
Please, if you can, consider helping us on this journey. Whether it’s a donation, sharing Chowder’s story on your social media, or simply sending positive thoughts, every bit helps. Together, we can give Chowder a fighting chance at the life he deserves.
Thank you for supporting Chowder’s road to recovery. We are forever grateful for your kindness.
