Hi everyone,
My name is Nevaeh, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest moments of me and my partners life. I’m asking for help for my dog Chompers, my 8-year-old Chihuahua mix, who is facing an emergency spinal surgery that will determine whether he walks again.
Just days ago, Chompers was his normal, happy self — playful, loving, and always by my side. Then suddenly, he became lethargic, started vomiting, and rapidly lost the ability to use his back legs. Within 48 hours, he went from walking to being non-ambulatory, painful, and unable to urinate on his own.
His Diagnosis
After multiple emergency veterinary visits, lab work, radiographs, CT imaging, and a neurology consultation at Veterinary Medical & Surgical Group (VMSG), Chompers was diagnosed with severe intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) with a confirmed herniated disc compressing his spinal cord.
This compression is causing:
• Paralysis of his hind legs
• Significant spinal and neck pain
• Loss of normal bladder function
The neurologist has strongly recommended urgent decompressive spinal surgery (hemilaminectomy) to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord and give him the best chance at recovery.
Why Surgery Matters
With IVDD, timing is everything. This surgery offers Chompers his best chance to:
• Walk again
• Regain bladder control
• Live a comfortable, pain-free life
Without it, there is a serious risk of permanent paralysis.
The Cost
The total estimated cost for Chompers’ emergency care and spinal surgery is $10,161.91, based on official hospital estimates and invoices. This includes emergency care, advanced imaging, neurology consultation, surgery, anesthesia, ICU recovery, medications, and post-operative care. I am attaching all medical records and invoices for full transparency.
Why We’re Asking for Help
This has been incredibly difficult financially. I am a part-time worker and a full-time student, and my partner — Chompers’ other owner — has been working nonstop to help cover these expenses. We are doing everything we can, but the cost of this life-saving surgery is more than we can manage alone.
Asking for help is not easy, but Chompers means everything to us, and we are determined to give him the chance he deserves.
About Chompers
Chompers is the sweetest dog. He loves to cuddle, play, and be surrounded by his family — especially his other pet siblings, who have been confused and gentle with him as he’s been unable to move. He wants nothing more than to be back on his feet, playing with them again and doing what he loves.
Even now, he still wags his tail and tries to move, showing us how much fight he still has.
I work in veterinary medicine, and I know how serious IVDD can be — but I also know how successful this surgery can be when done in time.
