On August 10, 2026, a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck near San José del Palmar in Chocó, Colombia. More than 43,000 people have been affected, and thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed.
For me, this is deeply personal. Chocó is the land of my family and my ancestors. I was not born there, but some of my most precious childhood and teenage memories were made there. It is a place that has given me, my family, and generations before me more than I could ever put into words. And
Chocó was vulnerable long before this earthquake. It is one of Colombia’s poorest and most geographically isolated regions. Many communities face limited infrastructure, displacement, and the lasting effects of conflict. Some areas are so remote that they can only be reached by river.
When a disaster of this magnitude strikes communities already facing these challenges, recovery becomes even harder.
I couldn’t just watch from a distance. So I started helping.
Before creating this GoFundMe, my family, friends, volunteers, local contacts, complete strangers, and I had already begun raising money and turning those donations into tangible help. We have walked through stores and warehouses looking for the best prices, asked businesses for discounts, collected donations, purchased supplies, packed and inventoried boxes, and coordinated transportation to Chocó.
Our first shipment of relief supplies has already been sent. But that was only the beginning.
Thousands of families are now facing the much longer challenge of rebuilding their lives and their homes. I created this GoFundMe so we can keep going.
Funds raised will be used to purchase construction and roofing materials, emergency supplies, food, hygiene and medical items, mattresses, pet food, basic household necessities, and other urgently needed resources, as well as the logistics required to get these supplies to affected communities—including those that are difficult to reach.
I will personally coordinate the use of these funds, as I have been doing since this effort began, working with people on the ground to identify needs, purchase supplies, and get them where they are needed.
Every donation matters.
Whether you give $1, $20, $100, or simply share this fundraiser with someone else, you are helping us keep going.
I know I cannot rebuild Chocó alone. But together, we can help one family, then another, and another.
This is not the end of our relief effort. It is only the beginning.
Thank you for helping Chocó recover and rebuild. ❤️
