My name is Chloe. I’m 25, married, and a mom currently living with my parents after being displaced from our previous apartment due to severe and ongoing health and safety issues. For months, we submitted maintenance requests regarding roaches, mice, mold, and other serious concerns, but the issues were never properly addressed. The infestations damaged nearly everything we owned, and the living conditions continued to decline. During the winter, our unit dropped to 30 degrees inside due to unresolved heating issues. With a child in the home, we had no choice but to stay in a hotel temporarily to keep her safe. After going through all of this, we decided to withhold half of rent and were ultimately evicted. When we left, we had to abandon about 90% of our furniture and belongings because they were contaminated by the infestations. We are now rebuilding from almost nothing. Our biggest current barrier to independence is our car payment. We rely on our vehicle daily for income and transportation, but the monthly note prevents us from saving enough to secure a housing deposit and move forward. Eliminating that payment would immediately free up monthly income so we can save for housing, replace essential items, and move into a safe, stable home of our own. We are working daily to rebuild. We are not asking for someone to carry us… we are asking for help creating one strategic reset so we can stand fully on our own again.
