My name is Chloe, and I’m 16 years old. Three years ago, I started having focal seizures after doctors found a brain tumor on my left temporal lobe. Cheerleading was my passion and my way to connect with others, especially since I’m homeschooled and don’t have a big social circle. I worked hard and even won All-Star Worlds in Florida, which was one of the best moments of my life. For a while, I felt like I was finally winning after years of struggling with my health.
After brain surgery to remove the tumor, I was hopeful I could get back to the things I loved. But just two months later, my seizures returned—worse than before. Now, I can’t tumble, run, travel, or even go underwater. The pain and pressure in my head are overwhelming, and I’m exhausted all the time. I’ve tried different seizure medications, but they’ve only made things harder, leaving me tired, depressed, and not feeling like myself. My family and I are doing everything we can—my mom works hard running her own cleaning business, and we live with my grandparents to save money—but the medical bills and insurance costs are just too much.
Recently, doctors found a gene mutation that causes my tumors to regrow. My last MRI showed something unclear, and they’re not sure if it’s the tumor coming back or something left behind. I need more MRIs, CT scans, EEGs, and possibly another brain surgery to find answers and hopefully get my life back. I miss cheerleading more than anything—the feeling of being in control, the adrenaline, and the joy of winning after so much loss. I just want the chance to be myself again and do what I love. Any support will help me get the tests and treatment I need to move forward.
