Help Chiyo Fight a Rare Cancer

Donation protected
We’re reaching out to ask for your support for a truly special woman — Chiyo — who is currently facing an incredibly tough battle with a rare and aggressive cancer.

About ten years ago, shortly after the birth of Chiyo's youngest child Mia, Chiyo was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma - a cancerous tumour on her kidney. The tumour led to the removal of her kidney and the start of immediate treatment. Since then, her journey has been long, complex, and courageous.

Chiyo’s cancer is extremely rare, and her body hasn’t responded well to many conventional treatments. Over the years, she’s tried every available option — some with success for a time, but the cancer has continued to return. She’s endured at least five major surgeries, including a full hysterectomy, and most recently an emergency surgery at the end of last year.

Just a few months ago, there was hope when she was accepted into a medical trial. Sadly, her body didn’t respond to the treatment, and she was removed from the trial. Now, her main tumour has grown rapidly, causing her immense pain and serious complications with her bowel.

At this stage, there are no standard medical treatments left being offered. However, Chiyo and her loved ones are not giving up. They are currently exploring alternative therapies — treatments that aren’t covered by public health or insurance, but may offer her hope, relief, and more precious time with her family.

What makes this all the more heartbreaking is that Chiyo is one of the most selfless, giving people you could ever meet. She is always the first to offer help, the one who quietly supports others without hesitation. From volunteering in her local surf life saving club to giving her time and energy to the schools her children Kai and Mia attend, Chiyo has always been about serving her community — never asking for anything in return.

Now, she needs us.

We’re asking for your help to raise funds for:

• Alternative and integrative therapies

• Home support services and recovery costs

Chiyo’s current focus is to get strong enough to go home, to be with her husband Peter and their children, and to pursue the treatments that may give her a better quality of life.

Any donation, big or small, will go directly to helping her access care and comfort during this critical time. Please share this with your networks, and keep Chiyo and her family in your thoughts.

Thank you for standing with her.
