Help CHIVA Africa!
I'm Becci, I am more a fan of slugging weights about than running but here we are, I'm running a 10k race to Support CHIVA Africa and the vital work they are doing.
The South African HIV Expert Helpline has been a crucial lifeline for healthcare workers, providing real-time expert guidance to doctors, nurses, and allied professionals treating children and adults with HIV. With over 3,000 calls received annually, this service has played a key role in preventing treatment failure, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and improving patient outcomes, particularly in under-resourced rural areas. However, following the withdrawal of funding, this essential service is now at risk of being permanently shut down.
The data collected through the helpline has been instrumental in identifying systemic treatment gaps, guiding national and provincial policy decisions, and ensuring swift intervention in cases of stock shortages and emerging medical concerns.
CHIVA Africa has stepped in to keep the helpline operational, recognising its immense value in bridging the gap in specialist HIV care and providing critical support to frontline healthcare workers. By integrating the helpline into our national support framework, we can expand our reach beyond KwaZulu-Natal to serve the entire country, with the potential to extend support into the broader African region.
To sustain this life-saving initiative, we urgently need to raise funds. With the helpline’s proven impact and its alignment with both national healthcare priorities and global HIV treatment goals, we invite partners to join us in ensuring its continuation. Your support will not only safeguard the future of this vital service but will also contribute to strengthening South Africa’s healthcare system and improving the lives of thousands of children and adults living with HIV.
