Help Me Overcome Health and Financial Hardships
Hello everyone,
My name is Chino. I’m reaching out today because I am in urgent need of your support. Sharing my story is difficult and humbling, but I have no other options left. Here’s a glimpse into my journey and the challenges I’ve been facing.
In 2018, my life changed dramatically when I was T-boned on my motorcycle by someone running a red light. I was thrown off the bike, landing on my left shoulder, and faced months of pain and sleepless nights without medical insurance. Despite these challenges, I managed to recover with the help of a great physical therapist, but the incident left me inactive and battling depression.
After recovering physically, I decided to make some significant lifestyle changes. I quit drinking, started eating healthier, and got into better shape. I had been bartending for over 25 years, but with these positive changes, I realized I wanted a new direction. Just as I was getting my life back on track, COVID-19 hit, and I found myself out of work and terrified. I have been lucky enough to have always been able to get a new bartending job based on reputation and knowing people. I also stayed at all of my jobs for several years. I was at my first bar for 12 years. That said I didn’t have much experience looking for work or interviewing.
In April 2020, I found a new beginning at Trader Joe’s. It was the positive environment I needed. However, I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, an autoimmune disease causing inflammation in the spine, along with degenerative disc disease. Despite these health challenges, I tried to stay positive and manage my condition.
In November 2021, I suffered a work injury to my right elbow and had to go on medical leave, receiving only a fraction of my wages. After months of occupational therapy, I returned to work, only for the injury to recur, forcing me out again in June 2022. The extended recovery was financially and emotionally draining, but I persevered.
During this time, I also experienced profound personal losses. I lost my grandmother, my cousin, and my beloved dog, all in a short period. These losses were incredibly painful and added to the weight I was already carrying. I did get Another dog a couple months later. I just can’t imagine living life without a dog in it. Especially through these times.
In early 2023, I was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and underwent surgery. Recovery was slow, and the situation was complicated by a breakup with my long-term girlfriend shortly after my recovery.. Despite the setbacks, I began doing contract work on the side to make ends meet, but it wasn’t enough yet to prepare myself for what was coming.
On July 9, 2024, I was diagnosed with a recurring hernia, requiring another surgery. I have no paid time off left, and I’m struggling to pay my bills and feed myself and my dog, Samson. To make matters worse, on August 1, I was informed that my home of nine years is being sold. My roommate and I, with our pups, need to find a new place to live immediately. I have zero dollars saved towards a move.
My rent has increased by $800 over the past three years, and any new place will cost significantly more. I have no savings for the move or surgery and have exhausted my small amount of credit due to recent unexpected large purchases. I have no one to turn to for financial help, and the stress is overwhelming.
The last several years have been spent repeatedly trying to catch up both physically and financially after each incident. Last year I spent $1000 on copayments for Doctor visits. It has taken a toll on me mentally and emotionally. I’m humbly asking for your donations to help me through this incredibly challenging time. Your support will help me cover moving expenses, surgery costs, and ensure Samson and I have a roof over our heads. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference. There are several even more personal incidents that aren’t mentioned here that have also added to these challenges.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can provide. Together, I believe I can overcome these challenges and move towards a brighter future.
Sincerely,
Chino
