Help China Ranch recover from the fire
Donation protected
There's been a fire at China Ranch! Please help us assist the Brown family with recovery as well as provide a donation to the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District. See below for more.
China Ranch Date Farm is a beloved oasis in the desert near Death Valley. Hundreds of thousands or millions of visitors have made the long trek down the winding dirt road to get to this magical burst of green in the harshest desert in North America. The farm grows numerous varieties of delicious dates, and is known far and wide for its famous date shakes. It is a cherished part of the culture of the California Desert. It is also vital habitat for wildlife, including endangered species, and a gateway to the beautiful Amargosa Wild and Scenic River.

Due to the thoughtless actions of an individual, there was a fire at China Ranch. Details are still coming in. We know that it was about 1 acre in size, it was above the main ranch near the reservoir, and it did not affect structures or the date groves. However it's likely there was damage to irrigation infrastructure, and there was definitely damage to irreplaceable wildlife habitat, especially for the southwest willow flycatcher and least Bell's vireo, two endangered birds.

75% of your donation will help China Ranch Date Farm rebuild from this fire, restore any damage to their infrastructure, and restore the important wildlife habitat which burned. 25% of your donation will go to the brave volunteers at the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District, without whose efforts we may have lost our beloved China Ranch.
Please help the Brown family and the community of the Amargosa Basin with your donation.
Disclosures: my name is Patrick Donnelly, and I've been a resident of the Amargosa Basin and friends with the Brown family for 7 years. I used to work as a field hand at China Ranch, and helped to finance and construct the Amargosa River trail there. I also was a board member of the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District for 2 years.
The intent is that 75% of the funds will go to China Ranch. The funds will be used to repair the irrigation system and to perform habitat restoration on the valuable bird habitat damaged by the fire. The other 25% of funds will go to the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District SIFPD, which is an all volunteer and grassroots funded fire agency, whose brave fire fighters helped save China Ranch from being destroyed.
Once the fundraiser ends I will cut checks to China Ranch and SIFPD.
