Help Chilli Get Back To His Old Self

Donation protected

On Friday 4th October our little boy Chilli collapsed while spending a sleepy day working from home with Samantha. Samantha rushed Chilli to our local Vet in Stanmore who looked over him carefully.  After observations and blood test results he was immediately rushed to Sydney Vet & Emergency Specialists in Rosebery - where he is still in a critical but stable condition.

Vets, Doctors, Nurses & Specialists still do not know exactly what has happened to Chilli. All we know is he has had a a large internal bleed in his abdomen that has left our little guy in emergency care. He is in the most capable hands and the team at SVES Roseberry couldn't be more accommodating for his needs.

Upon arriving at Emergency Chilli had a dangerously low temperature, was severely dehydrated & had a very low blood pressure and red blood cell count. He has been under constant observation in case there is a need for emergency surgery since Friday evening.

Chilli is now stable and has managed to increase his red blood cells in the last 24 hours by 5% (a small but very positive step in the right direction). His temperature is finally normal again and is on standby for blood transfusions unless he continues to improve his red blood cell count.

On Tuesday he will be undergoing more scans and tests by a specialist Sonographer to determine on where exactly this bleed is and what is happening.

Everyone is unsure about the cause of this huge bleed but the likelihood is that:

1. He was poisoned by someone or ate some poison (although we aren't sure how this could have happened)
2. Is the result of some degree of trauma (although he is by our side 99% of the time and we haven't seen him injured)
3. A tumour inside his abdomen

On the positive side Chilli finally started to eat small amounts of food on Saturday evening and continues to today. He is still on a fluid drip to keep him hydrated and seems to be missing us very much. He has a very inflated belly that is full of fluid and is in a small amount of pain that is being controlled with pain relief.

So we await further test results on Tuesday that hopefully tell us something further about the problem. In the event they can't get what they need from these scans the only option is to proceed with risky exploratory surgery to diagnose the cause and severity of the problem and make further decisions then.

So why are we doing this? Because we can't put a price on Chilli as we love him so much. He is our best friend and so many of you are his friends too! Since Friday we have accumulated approx $4000-$5000 of medical expenses - that are looking like they will continue for the next week. Each surgery will be in the region of $6000-$8000 and depending on what is found there may be some further medical procedures.

We don't have a specific financial goal we are trying to achieve. We are going to see what funds we are able to raise for our little special bloke!

We hope that having any additional funds will help give Chilli the best chance possible and help us make difficult decisions easier.

If magically we are able to raise more money than is actually needed we will be donating additional funds to the RSPCA.
