Right now, families in Penco, Lirquén, and Punta de Parra—coastal towns near Concepción and Tomé in Chile’s Biobío Region—are facing an unimaginable crisis.

Massive wildfires have torn through these working-class communities, forcing over 50,000 people to evacuate and leaving more than 1,500 people without homes. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to ashes in a matter of hours. Large portions of Lirquén were destroyed, and many families escaped with little more than the clothes they were wearing. The fires are still ongoing, and the need for help is urgent.

These are not wealthy urban areas. They are tight-knit, labor-based towns, where people work in forestry, fishing, port operations, manufacturing, small businesses, and service jobs. Many families were already living paycheck-to-paycheck. Now they have lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of stability—all at once.

This disaster requires immediate emergency support, but it will also take months and years for these communities to recover.

About Me & Why I’m Doing This

I was born and raised in the city of Concepción, just a short distance from the affected areas. My family has operated a local forestry-related business in the Punta de Parra area for over 60 years.

Through this business, we have employed—and built lifelong relationships with—workers from Penco, Punta de Parra, and Lirquén. Many of these workers and their families have now lost their homes in these fires.

Our family business was also completely burned to the ground. As a result, we are being forced to close. Tragically, this means that our workers—many of whom have dedicated their lives to this company—are now also losing their jobs on top of losing their homes.

We are heartbroken, but we are committed to supporting our workers and their communities as much as we possibly can. This fundraiser is not abstract for me—it is deeply personal. I know the people affected. I know their families. And I will make sure this help reaches those who need it most.
