Help children with severe burns in Tanzania
Donation protected
Jambo! My name is Katherine and I am currently working as a daktari manafunzi (student doctor) in Tanzania.
The paediatric burns unit here in Muhimbili Hospital here has been the most challenging ward thus far. The resources and funds are so limited that many children have no analgesia during treatment and dressing changes. Many of these children require skin grafts and will remain in hospital for months. Unlike in Australia, the ward is not designed specifically for children and does not have the bright colours, paintings or toys which often bring joy in such dire circumstances.
A little goes a long way here in Tanzania and any donation will help.
I hope to purchase paintings of animals like giraffes, elephants and lions to fill the hospital rooms which each house 8 to 10 beds. Donations can also purchase medical supplies (such as bandages and burns cream), pay for surgeries and assisting with patient discharges.
$120 can pay for a skin graft and change the life of a child.
The families on the ward have often lost their homes to the fires that burnt their children. Paying the medical bills can be impossible and the hospital does not discharge children until their bill has been paid in full.
Please help me make a difference.
I will post updates on the ward and the children who receive donations.
Much love,
Katherine
