We came to Kampala, Uganda as volunteers with Change African Child International (CACI) — Wiktoria and Łukasz, Polish professionals based in Belgium, later joined by Anna from Hungary. What started as volunteering quickly became something much more personal.
Through CACI, we began working at Iqra Community School, a small community school supporting children from extremely vulnerable backgrounds. Some are orphans. Many come from families struggling every day to afford even basic needs, and paying school fees often requires enormous sacrifice.
Education in Uganda is not guaranteed. Schools that provide stability and real learning opportunities are paid, and without them many children simply fall out of the system. For some students here, school is also the only place where they receive a warm meal, safety, and care.
We were amazed by the dedication of the teachers and the professionalism of the education despite very limited resources. The children are incredibly bright, curious, and motivated to learn. Teachers sometimes contribute from their own pockets so students can continue attending classes. The school director, Shiffa, even stays overnight with orphaned children who have nowhere else to go.
Today, the school faces a critical threat. The land on which it stands is rented, and the owner plans to sell it. Without securing this land, the school could be forced to close — leaving children without education and without a safe place to go.
The total amount needed to secure the future of the school is 40,000 USD — the cost required to purchase the land and ensure long-term stability. Even raising part of this amount would already make a crucial difference, allowing the school to gain time and secure a purchase agreement with the landowner, protecting the children from sudden eviction while long-term funding continues.
Our goal is to help secure the land and improve basic learning conditions so this school can continue giving children a future.
Every donation — no matter how small — helps protect education, stability, and hope.
❤️ Together, we can make sure these children keep their school.
