Help Chidi Recover from Emergency Surgery

Donation protected
Our sweet Chidi boy had to have emergency surgery last night (Friday, June 21) and is in the kitty hospital for most likely the whole weekend. To know Chidi is to love Chidi. He’s never met a stranger, thinks everyone is his best friend, and is hands down the most loving cat I’ve ever met. Just ask any of our friends who have experienced him jumping right onto their shoulders from the floor if they don’t pick him up fast enough. He’s got more love to give than the rest of our pets combined. His only fault is that he’s what we call misChidious and gets into things he shouldn’t…and this time ate something he shouldn’t have. It was stuck in his belly and our choices were surgery or say goodbye. Is that even really a choice?? If you know us, you know our pets are our babies. There was no choice at all.

The good news? His surgery went as well as it could, and they were able to remove part of a baby toy that he thought was a snack. He’s alert and being his lovable self with his new friends at the emergency vet, and he’s even eating well for them already. He’s handling things like the good boy that he is, and we’re happy he’s getting excellent care even though we miss him something awful. The house isn’t the same without him in it today, which is just reinforcing for us that we made the right choice. Our family isn’t complete without him.

The bad news? As you can imagine, an emergency surgery and hospital stay comes with a massive financial burden we weren’t at all expecting or prepared for. We’ve worked our old man doggo and his costly care into our budget, but we surely weren’t expecting massive expenses for our one year old, healthy baby boy. But BobbieAnn said it best when she looked at me and said, “I know we can’t afford this, but we also can’t afford to lose him.”

With that said, I don’t expect anything from anyone. My father tells me all the time that we don’t need as many animals as we have, and maybe he’s right. We made the choice to open our hearts and home to Chidi and his sister when we really probably didn’t need the extra financial burden of two more animals. That’s no one’s fault but our own, and we know that. However, we’re working our butts off lately trying to pay off the debt we already have, and the thought of adding more to it feels more discouraging and overwhelming than I can even explain. I HATE asking for help. I always have, and I do in this very moment. If you know me at all, you know that my wife is practically forcing me to write this. But here we are. Please don’t feel like you have to help, but know that even even $1 would be appreciated at this point. Anything helps if you’ve got something to spare. Trust me, Chidi is worth every penny we will have to pay. If you’ve got it in your heart to help, there’s an open invitation to come love on him any time. I’m certain he would love nothing more than to personally thank you with his purrs and nose boops. He loves everyone.
