My name is Bismarck Akanno.
A few minutes ago, I received a WhatsApp status update from my 29 year old niece in Nigeria, with the following caption, along with a video of her in the hospital undergoing dialysis.
"Please help Me Fight for My Life"
My niece is a 29 year old graduate of Imo state university with a degree in English and Literary studies. She does not drink and does not smoke. She is just an ordinary kid trying to live a normal life until life dealt her this major curveball.
In the WhatsApp status message, she appealed to friends, family and strangers. I was touched to the core because my niece is a strong woman who would rather suffer than to accept handouts from anyone.
The tone of her appeal speaks to someone who's at the end of her wits, who had given it all she had and still sees no light at the end of the tunnel.
I cannot begin to express how sad and powerless I felt that my niece had to appeal to strangers for her life.
If I have the funds to do this, I wouldn't have opened up this page as the pride of self sufficiency runs in the family.
I have given what I have to my niece to continue her dialysis until we can find enough funds for the transplant.
We appeal to you to help save my niece's life.
Thank you.

Please help Me Fight for My Life
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-hearted Strangers,
My name is Chidera Onuoma and I’m reaching out with a humble heart and a deep hope for your support. I’ve been battling with End Stage Kidney Failure, which was caused by Lupus, an autoimmune condition which fights healthy organs in the body, and I urgently need a Kidney transplant which comes at a cost I simply cannot bear alone.
Despite my best efforts to manage the medical expenses, the costs have become overwhelming. I am currently in need of N40,000,000 (Forty million Naira) for dialysis sessions, medications, and transplant surgery]. This treatment is not just essential—it’s life-saving.
I’m appealing to the kindness of the public to help me get the care I need to survive and recover. Any contribution, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to healing. If you’re unable to give, simply sharing my story would mean the world to me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my message and for standing with me in this difficult time. Your generosity can give me the chance to live
With gratitude,
Precious.
