In 1977, the Lloyd family packed up their car and drove across the country from California to Columbia, Maryland for a new job opportunity and a fresh start. What began as a road trip to a new home quickly grew into a legacy. By 1981, the family was working as equipment contractors for KFC, Wendy’s, and Burger King throughout the DMV. In 1987, after years of hard work in the restaurant industry, the Lloyds opened Chick N’ Friends in the Long Reach Village Center. Today, more than 24 years later, Chick N’ Friends proudly stands as the longest-running family-owned and Black-owned restaurant in Columbia, Maryland.

For decades, Chick N’ Friends has been more than just a place to eat—it has been a part of the community’s heartbeat. We’ve served comfort food that brings families together, offered first jobs and training to local youth, and provided a gathering place where memories are made.

Our family business has reached an important crossroads. With our lease ending and the property slated for redevelopment, it’s time for us to relocate. Taking to heart the feedback of our loyal customers, we’re excited to share that a new location has already been secured. Though this transition was unexpected, we’re optimistic—the new space will be safer, more visible, and better suited to welcome our community for years to come.

We’re so close to making this dream a reality! Our fundraising goal of $31772.00 will help us cover the final costs of relocating—everything from moving expenses to securing our new space and making sure the transition is smooth and successful.
