As most know, I am a tennis player at Virginia Tech and also serve as a player on the National Cambodian Tennis Team. In 2020, I made the decision to leave my number one position with a full-ride at my previous university, Niagara, and take my talents elsewhere to compete at a higher level. Fortunately, I was able to get in contact with the head coach at Virginia Tech and transfer as a preferred walk-on. I am from New York, and without a scholarship, my yearly out-of-state tuition is almost $46k. I am a first generational Khmer college student. Currently, in the midst of my Junior year, I am SO close to finishing and obtaining my degree. Last semester I nearly had a scare because my family and I were not able to get approved for loans, we tried everything and kept getting denied. This upcoming Spring semester I have a balance due of $5,300 that is supposed to be settled by January 11, 2021. And again, we keep getting declined federal loans, and private loans. I have tried everything and asked the athletic department here at VT for help however due to COVID, finances have been cut is what I have been told. I know I have a big support system of friends and family all over the globe. I usually do not like to ask for things like this, but it has become my last resort as I am desperate to finish out my college career and cannot afford to drop out of school when I am so close to the finish line. Anything will help, $5, $10, $15, $20, I am very appreciative for those that took your time to read this, and I promise I will not let you all down.
