If you have the pleasure of knowing Adam, then surely you Love him! My little brother has a way with people; everyone he comes into contact with walks away thinking, "I have to hang out with this guy again!" He has such an infectious personality and is always so happy...most of you wouldn't know that he has been facing some serious health issues for some time. For the past few years, he has been experiencing debilitating headaches and frightening memory loss. Up until recently, he didn't want to face the possibilities of what it could mean. Sadly, it had gotten so bad that he finally visited The Neurologic Wellness Institute and had extensive testing done. The outcome of that appointment confirmed some of his worst fears - his love for hockey has had a negative impact on his overall brain health. Over the span of his long hockey career, he suffered over 8 concussions which has resulted in severe brain trauma. While there is no cure, he has been offered some options to try and offset some of the more painful and reoccurring symptoms. Currently, he is scheduled (and has started) 12 Neuro Therapy sessions, 10 Neuro Feedback sessions and 40 sessions in a Hyperbaric chamber. Because there is still so much unknown about the long term effects of concussions and the treatments are not considered medically effective or necessary, his insurance won't contribute to any of these extremely expensive therapies. The above sessions alone will cost $8450...this doesn't include any of the testing he's had done or may need to have going forward. While these sessions offer no guarantee, taking a chance on something is not something my little brother has ever shied away from. If they are able to offer ANY kind of relief, then this will all be worth it. Today was his first appointment of many. He has 45 appointments scheduled within the next three weeks. We are so hopeful that some of the pain and stress is minimized and he can return to the kid we all know and love. If there is anything you would feel comfortable contributing, I know he would be extremely grateful; no amount is too small, no gesture too insignificant! Thank you for taking the time to read about his journey...I will post updates as they come and in the meantime, please take care of yourselves and each other!
