My name is Cheyton Hall, and I am a Junior at UNCA who was born and raised in Asheville. After my mother passed in 2022, I decided to go back to school after the COVID pandemic and have become a passionate local organizer. On February 24th, I was the victim of a brake check scam by a man who has terrorized my home for years. A man with a car covered in hateful messages began to drive erratically and then proceeded to slam on his brakes in an intersection after I gave him the finger. Unfortunately, in the accident, my car's front end was severely damaged, making it undriveable. North Carolina is one of four states in the nation with "contributory negligence laws, " which means that even if I am 1% at fault, I am barred from recovering damages. This loss of my vehicle is devastating to me. Without transportation, I am unable to attend classes, work, or get around. I am asking for support in funding either repairs or a new vehicle to allow me to continue with my life. Thank you for your consideration and your kindness.
