A little over a month ago, my 12-year-old sister Cheyenne was a bright, energetic pre-teen, full of life. Today, she is bravely fighting T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T-ALL), an aggressive form of blood cancer, surrounded by hospital walls instead of her family and friends.

Her treatment began immediately, starting with 8–9 months of intensive chemotherapy, which includes frequent and extensive hospital stays, outpatient appointments, and ongoing monitoring, followed by additional treatment and care over the next couple of years. It is a long, exhausting road, but Cheyenne is facing it with incredible courage. She is strong, resilient, and still shows her trademark sassy attitude through it all. ‍‍

My parents have been by her side every moment at the hospital and in their home away from home, the Ronald McDonald House. At home, Cheyenne’s siblings are missing her and their parents deeply and are adjusting to life while she undergoes treatment. As the eldest, I am doing what I can to ease some of the stress and care for our youngest sibling while our parents focus on Cheyenne’s battle.

They are now in the position where they will need to take extensive unpaid leave from work to stay with Cheyenne and manage the constant hospital commitments. Meanwhile, the bills do not stop, including mortgage, utilities, groceries, travel costs, and the ongoing costs of providing for the rest of the family at home, in addition to the relentless expenses of having a child in long-term treatment.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward keeping our family afloat while we focus on what truly matters: helping Cheyenne fight.
