This is Chevy. He’s 4 years old and the sweetest, most loving boy you could ever meet. On Sunday, 02/22/2026, he suddenly started acting completely unlike himself. When he refused to eat all day, I made him his very own steak — his favorite — and he still wouldn’t touch it. That’s when I knew something was seriously wrong.
When I gently touched his abdomen, it was hard to the touch. I rushed him to the emergency pet hospital, where after exams and X-rays, he was diagnosed with splenic torsion — a life-threatening condition where his spleen had twisted and was cutting off blood flow to his heart. I was told Chevy only had hours to live. Emergency surgery was his only chance.
Thankfully, we made it there in time. The doctors were able to perform surgery and remove his spleen, saving his life. I truly believe that getting him there when I did is the only reason he’s still here with us today.
This experience has been emotionally and financially overwhelming. The emergency surgery cost nearly $10,000, and I had to put down a large deposit before they could even begin operating. While I was approved for a medical credit line through the hospital, I recently moved into my own place for Chevy and me, and with the cost of living in San Diego, I simply cannot manage this debt on my own.
Chevy has touched so many lives with his gentle spirit and unconditional love. He has so much more life to live, so many more adventures ahead of him. In addition to the surgery costs, there will be follow-up visits, medications, and possible heart-related care if complications arise.
It’s incredibly hard for me to ask for help, but this is my last resort. If you’re able to donate, share this page, send a prayer, or even stop by to give Chevy some love as he recovers, it would mean more than I can put into words.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can give.
