Chestnut, my newly adopted emotional support cat, came into my life after being rescued from a hoarding situation. He was one of over twenty cats saved and brought to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Though Chestnut is in good physical health and shows no signs of abuse or neglect, he has experienced emotional distress from the upheaval of being removed from his previous home and placed in a shelter and foster care. Now, as we both adjust to life in a new home after traumatic experiences, we are supporting each other emotionally as we heal.
I am a recently housed, unemployed, disabled adult who was unhoused for two years. While Chestnut’s sweet, loving, and cautiously trusting nature is beginning to blossom, much is required to create a space that provides the basic necessities, comfort, and safety needed for both of us to continue healing. He is endlessly curious, loves pets and scratches, gets the zoomies at 4 a.m., and enjoys looking out the window. I wish my love were enough, but I want to give him a better life than I can afford right now.
Funds raised will help provide immediate supplies for Chestnut, cover his vet visit, and support ongoing needs like food, litter, and care. Your support will help us build a safe, comfortable environment where we can both heal and thrive. By supporting the healing Chestnut and I give to each other, you will be a part of a larger journey and community that provides mutual and sustainable healing for all.
