Dear friends and family,
First, thank you to so many who have prayed, reached out, and asked how you can help!
I am writing on behalf of the McClure, Lippincott and Lanier families for our family in Jamaica, Cheryl, Danny, Dominic and Donte.
As many of you know, our family has a very special relationship to Cheryl, her family and Jamaica. Cheryl came into our lives 30+ years ago when we met her on our first trip to Jamaica. My mom and Cheryl had one conversation while she was braiding me and my sister's hair that changed both their lives forever. It was the beginning of a lifelong sisterhood.
Thanks to my mom working for AA, we traveled to Jamaica multiple times a year throughout my childhood. Also thanks to my mom's benefits at AA, Cheryl was able to visit us in the US each year as well. She was there for all our lives biggest moments, and taught us some of our greatest life lessons. It's hard to put into words what our relationship to Cheryl means to us as she is one of the biggest blessings God placed in our lives. We truly consider Cheryl and her family our family.
Hurricane Melissa was devastating. The area Cheryl lives, was one of the hardest hit areas. Thankfully we have heard from her once and know she and her family are ok. However; they have a long road ahead and it will take awhile for them to rebuild their lives. Due to the magnitude of this situation and what they will need, we appreciate any support you'd like to give.
100% of donations received will go directly to Cheryl (Kari McClure is transferring all funds to Cheryl's account) to assist with:
- Damage to their home from Hurricane Melissa- all windows were blown out and they have water damage
- Food and water- they are very low on both
- Medical assistance as Danny, Cheryl's husband, suffered a severe stroke this past year. He is bedridden and Cheryl could use help taking care of him so she and the boys can find work
- Livelihood- Cheryl depends on tourism for her income. She is a very talented designer making leather goods (known for her beautiful purses). It will be months until Jamaica benefits from tourism again (at least in her area), and she will need funds for food, transportation and bills. Cheryl does not drive or have a car.
Cheryl is one of those bright lights in this world. Her faith, strength and optimism are so inspiring. Thank you for helping us keep that light shining as we show her how loved and cared for she is!
We are so grateful for your kindness!
