Never did I think I’d be setting up a GoFundMe page for my mom. She would actually kill me if she knew I did. On March 23, 2020 my mom, Cheryl Larin, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). AML is a rare cancer of the blood and bone marrow. She was told she had two weeks to live if she didn’t report to the hospital immediately to begin treatment. This meant that effective immediately she needed to quit her job, leave her home, and move an hour and a half away to Kingston General Hospital. Her treatment involved months of intense chemotherapy. She was on a 24/7 drip of chemo. During her 5 month stay at Kingston General Hospital she was in complete seclusion. Because of the pandemic not even her husband was allowed to visit her. Those of you that know my mom know that she is a fighter. She has a strength and resilience like no other. She has maintained a warrior attitude and has been determined from the beginning that she would beat this. She battled through being intubated multiples times and waking up dazed and confused from medically induced comas. We finally received the news that she was in remission and was able to proceed with her bone marrow transplant. On August 7, 2020 she received her bone marrow transplant at Ottawa General Hospital. Even though she was still unable to return home for the next 4 months we were hopeful that this would mean her health was on the way to being fully restored. On July 17, 2021 we received the devastating news that my mom’s leukemia is back. She is currently in her third month of a new round of chemotherapy treatments. She currently makes the long trip for blood work, monitoring, and weekly checkups. With the hospital being so far from home the burden of travel is adding up as she’s been unable to work for the past 19 months. This road has been long, and the future is still unknown. In addition to all this there are still bills to be paid and mouths to feed. I am asking anyone that reads this to donate. Anything! The money raised will go towards mortgage, utilities, groceries, gas, and all the everyday things we don’t even realize we need. I want my mom’s main focus to be on her health and not financial worries. Thank you for your love, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
