Help Cheryl Dansberger With Handicapped Transport

Donation protected
In May 2021, Cheryl fell and broke her knee replacement hardware and shattered her femur. Surgery was performed to try and fix it. In August she contracted an infection that was four different bacterias that ate away the skin around the knee repair causing the hardware to move inside her knee. In November 2021 she had surgery that should have been an amputation of her leg from the knee down, but the doctor wanted to try and save the leg. She has a metal rod running the length of her leg and her knee is made of medical grade cement. So far, everything has held. The wound incision from the infection was about 15 inches down the side of her leg that had a wound-vac on it pumping the infection out of her leg. Dressings were changed three days a week from August until it was finally certified as healed in mid January. All this time and to this day she has been confined to a hospital bed in our kitchen. Now that her wound had healed, she can go to outpatient physical therapy and doctor's appointments. The problem is she cannot walk. She is wheelchair bound with her bad leg strapped to the leg of the wheelchair sticking straight out since it won't bend. She has used Baltimore County Ride to transport her to three physical therapy appointments. Today, they could not pick her up for her appointment, but they had a bus that could bring her home!?! They have larger buses that accommodate her leg sticking out, but they seem to have bought smaller vans that smash her toes against a poll while they are turning her in her wheelchair. Last Thursday she wasn't strapped in properly and when we came to a stop, she rolled forward and her leg hit the back of the driver's seat bending her ankle in half.

We are asking for any help we can get from anyone who hears her story so we can buy a wheelchair accessible van so she can go to her physical therapy appointments so none are missed. They feel it may take eight to twelve months of therapy to see if she will be able to walk, or she may live out the rest of her life in a wheelchair. We showed a picture of the type of van we need. They are available used in a range of prices, and whatever we can receive in donations will give us the amount we may be able to spend on a van. This is on top of a mountain of medical bills from the last two years. Anything you can give would be so appreciated! Thank you!
