My sister Cheney, the kindest, most giving, and smartest person I know, is now facing the fight against breast cancer.

Cheney is only 35 years old, a devoted middle school teacher in San Antonio, Texas, and she has recently been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 3, in both breasts. This is something that doctors say is extremely rare. Her life has completely changed in just weeks, and it has been an emotional and overwhelming journey for all of us. Just these few weeks Cheney has had multiple appointments with copays. This is just the beginning, she has even more to come.

Doctors have told her she will need months of chemotherapy but insurance does not cover many of the costs. On top of medical bills and copays, Cheney still has to manage her mortgage, car payment, and care for her three beloved dogs. The financial burden is extremely heavy.

Chemotherapy will also cause her to lose her long hair, which is heartbreaking for her. We want to help her purchase a wig and provide some comfort during this difficult time.

Cheney has always been the type of person to give to others first, whether it’s her students, her family, or her friends. Now she’s the one in need, and we want to give her love, support, and generosity she’s always shown.
