Within 24 hours of returning to the U.S. for the holidays, I experienced an unexpected breakup and had to complete an emergency move, resulting in over $1,100 in sudden, unavoidable expenses.

Hello, my name is Chelsea. I am an American currently completing a two-year Master’s degree in Taiwan. After finishing my first semester, I returned to the U.S. for the holidays, when I had to remove my belongings from my former partner’s home.

Due to significant delays with the moving truck and labor, my belongings could not be delivered to their intended destination, and I was forced to secure an emergency storage unit. In a single day, I incurred $1,147.40 in moving, labor, and storage costs. On top of that, my car battery died during the move, resulting in additional roadside assistance expenses.

I am a full-time student in Taiwan with a small part-time job, earning approximately $250 per month. These sudden and unavoidable expenses are difficult for me to absorb on a student budget.

I am creating this GoFundMe to help cover the emergency move costs, basic living expenses while I remain in the U.S. for the next three weeks, and short-term storage so I can return to Taiwan and continue my studies without this crisis compounding further. During this time, I am actively selling furniture and personal items to downsize or eliminate storage costs.
