Help Chelsea Fight for Her Life and Be There for Her Son
In March 2023, our world changed forever. My partner, Chelsea, was diagnosed with kidney failure, a devastating consequence of complications from preeclampsia during pregnancy. Our son, Charlie, was born in November 2021, but the joy of welcoming him into our lives came with unimaginable challenges. The preeclampsia caused Chelsea's blood pressure to spiral, damaging her kidneys, heart, and vision.
Once they started failing, her kidneys went quickly. In just weeks after the diagnosis, her kidney function dropped below 15%, forcing her onto dialysis. To restore her vision, she underwent double cataract surgery and had to get injections in her eyes every other week for two months before she was able to see again. Following that, she was placed on the transplant list for both kidneys and a pancreas, as her lifelong Type 1 diabetes will inevitably affect any new organs she receives.
But the battle didn’t end there. In July 2024, after enduring a year of dialysis, Chelsea was also diagnosed with heart failure. Her doctors explained that her heart resembles that of a 90-year-old rather than a 26-year-old mother. Her heart function is now at 34% and must improve to at least 50% before she can receive the kidney transplant she desperately needs.
Last week (January of '25), we were dealt another crushing blow: Due to her continual decline in her heart health, Chelsea was removed from the transplant list entirely. Her doctors now believe a heart transplant may be necessary before she can receive any other organs. She was also diagnosed with autonomic neuropathy (her nervous system that controls involuntary systems -organs- has been damaged), and will need that diagnosis and treatment to follow through before she is able to go back on the list.
Through it all, Chelsea remains the most devoted mother to our beautiful son, Charlie, who is nonverbal autistic, and requires additional care and support. Between her illness, dialysis, and the demands of parenting a disabled child, Chelsea has been unable to work. Disability provides less than 1/3rd of her previous income, and we were forced to downsize our home.
As her partner, I’ve taken on two jobs and drive Uber on weekends to keep us afloat while also being her caregiver and a father to Charlie. But despite our best efforts, the weight of medical bills, travel costs for treatments, and everyday expenses has become overwhelming.
We are asking for your help. Your support will ease the financial strain on our family and allow Chelsea to focus on what matters most: fighting for her health and being there for Charlie.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Your kindness will help us cover medical expenses, treatments, and the costs of living during this unimaginably difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any help you can offer. From the bottom of our hearts, we are deeply grateful for your generosity.
With love and hope,
Damien Lynn
