My name is Julia, and I’ve had the great privilege of working with Chef Ogawa for the past four years. He is not only my superior, but also one of the hardest-working, most humble, and dedicated individuals I’ve ever met. His passion for pastry, his leadership, and his kindness have touched everyone who’s had the honor of working alongside him.
Chef Ogawa, a native of Japan, came to the United States on a work visa to serve as a Pastry Sous Chef at The Peninsula. For the past four years, he has poured his heart into his craft, creating beauty through chocolate sculptures and joy through his desserts and mentoring others with patience and grace.
Beyond the kitchen, Chef Ogawa is a loving husband and a devoted father to three beautiful, healthy boys. His family is his greatest pride and joy, and together they’ve built a life filled with love and hope here in the U.S.
Recently, Chef Ogawa began experiencing severe abdominal pain, which led to a heartbreaking diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He will begin his chemotherapy journey on October 8th, In hopes to shrink his tumor followed by a series of complex chemo and a surgery.
Due to the restrictions of his visa, Chef Ogawa must continue working through treatment to maintain his employment and support his family. His wife, unfortunately, is unable to work because of their visa situation, placing an even heavier burden on their household during this incredibly difficult time.
We are raising funds to help alleviate some of the financial and emotional stress that this diagnosis has brought. These contributions will go directly toward medical expenses, living costs, and essential needs for Chef Ogawa and his family as they navigate this challenging journey.
Chef Ogawa has spent years bringing joy and artistry to others through his work. Now, it’s our turn to give back, to show him and his family that they are not alone in this fight.
Please consider donating or sharing this page to support Chef Ogawa as he faces this battle with strength, courage, and grace. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping this remarkable man and his family.
With gratitude,
Julia
